Twickenham & District MRC starts ambitious new OO layout

Twickenham & District MRC will soon start building baseboards for a large ambitious OO layout.

The project, which is for a layout up to 33ft by 10ft, is based around the "common fiddle yard" principle - where one "common" fiddle yard is shared by several different "fronts" e.g. British steam era OO, American HO, Modern Image OO etc. Obviously, one one layout "front" can be run at any given time, but the Club wants to cater for as many specialist interests within OO/HO fraternity as possible.

It is very likely that the first "front" is based on the Club's "home" station - TWICKENHAM - as it was before it was modernised in 1954. However, whilst the trackplan and infrastructure will be pre-1954 , we will run it at exhibitions with stock as running in 1961 - the year the Club was founded. We think this will make the model an interesting project when we show the layout within the locaal area, although on Club running nights it will be a case of "anything goes".

Any enthusiasts wanting to get involved in this exciting project are invited to come along to our Clubrooms any Friday and meet "the team" - any skills or no skills , everyone's welcome - we have members in the Club from 12 years old upwards and who live as far as Woking, Barnes, Staines, Bracknell and Ealing - so if you're over 12 and live in the SW of London or beyond why not visit our website for more details of the Club - www.tdmrc.org.uk or email me at [email protected]
