Can anybody point me in the direction of some very fine non-offensive 00 couplings that I can still use with a fully detailed buffer beam ?

I am the guy that works for Oxford Diecast making their master models ready for China to copy and produce in mass for you all to buy. With these sorts of skills, do you think I would be experienced or good enough to use Alex Jackson's couplings?

The reason why I ask is, because my mate has used these couplings on the layout that this loco came from, and he liked them big time. I also like them because they hardly show on the loco. My layout (when built) will be mainly an end to end shunting depo for Hydraulics and only ever pulling a coach or two, or maybe 3 wagons.

I need an automatic coupling because I hate seeing "the hand of God", the layout will be going to shows and it will be housed in a 5 sided box (with a full roof).

The original question was based on using OO loco's.

I've been giving it some thought. What if I were to use a three link type but solder all the links together and then solder a dropper on the middle link with a small metal lump. The last link could be oval and soldered on its side to give a wider contact for the hook.

Stop over an electro magnet, turn the magnet on, the dropper pulls down pushing the links up (just over horizontal) loco backs up a little. Turn off the magnet, the links drop down on to the hook??

It will look just about as good as any coupling can when not connected.

Is there any reason why this won't work?

Any advise on electro magnets and how I can make one with standard railway hook up wire and 16v from the transformer?

OK, I gave up, I bought standard Smiths 3 links for the rolling stock

I am having problems finding 00 diesel screw link couplings for the locos now (with the parallel plates for the top link) Can anybody point me in the right direction
