Hi all. Sorry if this is a stoopid question, but how do I upload photos to this forum? Any help appreciated.

Read this topic and if that doesn't work, ask a question at the end so that the new information is available for the next person with that question.

Best of luck

David
Thanks David, but sadly I'm none the wiser, so I have indeed added to the postings about this subject.

As far as I am concerned uploading photos to this Forum is unnecesarily complicated which is why I don't bother!

I must say I find that surprising. Maybe it is complicated for you, but it is not unneceassary. And also once you take a bit of time to try and do it you will be posting pics with no problem. you cannot expect your photos to transfer straight from your camera to the forum... yet!!
First the photos have to be on the WWW somewhere. A site such as photobucket or one of the other sites. These sites in my experience couldn't make it easier to upload and share photos.
They have quick upload facilites so you can upload many pics at once. Photobucket has the the foresite to recognise that people post pictures on forums such as this as with that, has a 'Generate Code' facility, whereby in the click of a few tick boxes you can select your pictures and then the website makes a nice box with everything you need to cut and paste for insertion into the forum. [as well as a box under each and every picture]

that thumbnail took 7 mouse clicks
not exactly complicated

please try again as I for one like to see people's pictures and would appreciate if you did bother

Use the same system that is used on the Railway Forum which alows photos to be upload direct from my computer. I do not see the point of maintaining a site to keep my photos on the WWW just to upload them to here.

Anyway I have several thousand digital images and it would inevitably mean transfering a relevant image to the other site to load it to here.

The Railway Forum allows photos to be uploaded to a personal gallery or as attachments to a thread. The later is particularly useful to illustrate a point.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your response.

I have expressed my views in the post above.

In the meantime if you would like to see some of my photos may I invite you to visit The Railway Forum at:

http://www.railwayforum.net/

You will find that I have quite a few photos in my Gallery!

Best wishes,

Fair enough John
I don't appear to be able to see the pics on the other forum without being a member though.. which I am not.
One thing about having direct upload to a forum like this is bandwidth, and bandwidth costs money, I would hazard a guess that is why many forums do not have direct upload?

cheers

There is no problem with joining and no charge.

I certainly would not consider spending a couple of minutes going via Photobicket or something similar complicated to upload photos for use in Forums.
Hi

I used to find it a pain when using the Optus users webpage as you had to go through and Update your own web page

But now since I use Auctiva to host my ebay pictures , I also use it to host my MRF pictures - Its free
and I just paste the picture address in the link after clicking on the Image button

I certainly don't find it a problem at all - & I'm a bit of a computer duffer - actually, I'll rephrase that - it was not a problem before I was a "plus" member - it's even easier now.

Personally I find the general way this forum works is fine as it is.
I'm a plus member and spent over an hour yesterday trying to upload photos all to no avail!
We offer a Gallery with the Plus+ membership. This is a paid-up service costing about £13 per year. There is a costs because the hosting of this website is not free. We pay for bandwidth for the forum and anything hosted on the servers. Our costs are partly covered by advertising and the income from the Plus+ membership.

With the Gallery, you can directly upload from your PC to the Gallery or forum discussion.

You can see the details of the Plus+ offer here.

randolph, and others with problems, if you need any assistance, please just ask for it. There are many guys here that are more than willing to help.

Hi John

As you already have pictures on the WWW on the other forum

All you need to do is Right click on the image you want from the other forum
a menu box pops up - select properties - that will give you the WWW address of your photo and a few other details
Highlight the Web address of the photo Right click on the highlight - select Copy then on this forums topic that you are writing in - click on the image button - paste in your photos web address

Your image is posted

hope this helps

Zmil,

I really appreciate your help in this matter. However the point I am trying to make is that to post a picture on this Forum, I have to "use" another Forum.

By "use" I mean take advantage of its facilities by posting a photo that may have no relevance to that Forum because I cannot post direct to this. I believe that it is not reasonable to do this.

When I make a post I do it for a purpose, not to clutter up the forum with material purely for my own use.

As I have already said I have thosands of images of which less than 400 have been posted to The Railway Forum. It highly likely that an image which may be relevant to a post here has not been posted to The RF, which is why I would like to be able to post direct.

Best wishes,

John H-T.

John H-T, if the Railway Forum you refer to is the Net version, I spent some time looking thru it & could not find any photos themselves imbedded within the posts - just references to other sites or parts of the same site. Is that what you are referring to?
Yes, I do agree that it does seem unusual in needing another site to host photos, etc but I think the ability to post photos directly into a thread is better than having just a link to somewhere else to view it. My thoughts anyway.
Understood John re membership but do they still only show as attachments & not as direct photos even if one is a member?
QUOTE (Sol @ 11 Dec 2008, 22:20) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Understood John re membership but do they still only show as attachments & not as direct photos even if one is a member?

Sol

They appear as thumbnails at the bottom of the post, which enlarge when double clicked.

Best wishes,

John.
