A couple of days ago on our local TV news in the North West, a retired gentleman was featured with a model railway that ran upside down. The board, about 6X4 and with buildings, scenery etc. featured an OO. figure of eight with a raised crossing in the middle. Round this was running a small 0-4-0 like Nellie and a few wagons and brake van.
The whole layout was suspended upside down from the roof of his workshop and the little train was batting round at a good speed. He explained that it was all done with magnets and had been an interesting retirement project. There were a couple more layouts on the ceiling. I wonder how he generated enough magnetic force to hold the train on whilst overcoming that force to drive it round at speed.
