Commiserations to Market Deeping Model Railway Club from all of us at K&DMRS.

Their Stamford Exhibition today has been cancelled due to a group of fifteen year olds breaking into the venue, ( Stamford Welland Academy) and vandalising all the exhibition layouts that had been set up on the previous evening.

The police have arrested four fifteen year olds, who clearly did not reflect on the consequences for layout owners, club members and potential show visitors

I see there is no report about the parents being arrested and Social Services being called in, over the lack of control applied to the 15 year old youngsters, who were out at 04.00 in the morning!!

No report either that the parents were concerned and reported the youngsters missing.

My sincere condolences for the exhibitors for their massive loss.

Regards

Julian

I was due to exhibit my layout there today. When we arrived just before 8.00am, we were told of this pointless act. the club members were very quiet and in a state of shock and disbelief.

If it could happen in a very genteel town like Stamford, it can happen almost anywhere. [Stamford was voted one of the best places to live in the UK].

I agree with you Julian about the parents' irresponsibilty. What pathetic people they must be to not know where their offspring are and doing at that time of the night/morning. I hope the police, social services and the insurance company go after them as their behaviour is neglectful.

Stamford is a small town and these four imbeciles will be clearly identified in no time!

I agree wholeheartedly with all of the above, parental resposibility does'ent seem to exist anymore.
If I had done any thing like this(which I would'nt 'cos at 15,I was at the mercy of a rather nice chap who went by the title of Regimental Sergeant Major)my Old Man would have beat 7 bells out of me.
What an awful world we now live in.

I love the terminology for the RSM as so many of us will remember them. I also remember being held responsible for my behaviour {commensurate with my age, of course}. Those youths would have known that what they were doing was destructive of other people's considerable achievements, but thought it would bring them some form of credibility in the eyes of similar minded ignorant youths. Apparently their parents lacked the ability to give substantial guidance about respect for the achievements of others and a lack of recognition of what that might lead their offspring to do to others. The youths and their parents need to be informed, very directly of their errors.

I doubt that the experienced knowledge of those Warrant Officers , nor the Social Services, will be allowed time or finance to guide the way in which the kids and their parents learn about the negative effect they have imposed upon others - shame!

While I too agree re lack of responsibility, can't blame the parents all the time.
It is not as if they sit outside their child's bedroom door all night to make sure they don't leave the house.
Do you know where your children are 24/7?

I understand that Sir Rod Stewart has donated £10,000 and has called on other stars who are model railway fans to follow his example. It seems the clubs concerned who had anticipated raising £500 have already raised £60,000.

Money does not solve the problem of replacing the destroyed and irreplaceable items but it goes to show that there are some that appreciate the work that has gone into the exhibitors models. I am sure we share their disappointment and distress

at loosing their models in this way.

Lets hope the alleged perpetrators (who have been released on Bail) receive a long custodial sentence,

Sadly this is the case with the UK Justice system. A former gardener of mine that had little common sense was arrested last August along with two friends for stealing a TV from a house across the road.

He is now serving 10 years with hard labour. In Zambian jails prisoners are rarely fed, if at all, and depend on relatives and friends to bring them food.
They are "lucky" if there is less than 10 to a cell and no TV or radio. They might be allowed a shower once a week. So you can imagine what Zambian prisons are like!

I guess that the destruction these boys caused would here, be at least a juvenile detention until they are 18 and then prison for several years. They are Lucky they don't live in a third world county.
