I really like the look of the virgin pendolino and noticed the train pack was £120 and the trainset was £160 my question is, if you spend £40 more on the train set you get the large Oval of track with two sidings, two points and two buffer stops
Hornby TrakMat ,Hornby Select Digital Control Unit ,so are the trains in the £120 inferior as the select dcc is £70 on its own + the track and track mat must amount to at least another £25, so if it is the same trains why is there such a difference in price thanx

This is why there are so many unboxed new models and controllers for sale.

The boxed trainsets are generally good value for money. Traders split them up and sell the constituent parts at a decent profit.

Look at the Hornby DCC mixed goods set. Cost online about £100. Add up the cost of all the parts and it comes to about £170 - £200 at online prices. (I'm going from memory here, it's some time since I worked it out)

The set in the Digital set has a decoder already fitted. The one in the pack doesn't. Apart from that they are the same.
