***Merry Christmas Tony... and yes, some do like the anecdotes which all go to build the background awareness of the prototype and hopefully just by being at the back of the mind while we beaver away, build on the character of our modelling - so keep them coming as often as you feel inclined.

Back to the real reason for my post: Well done on the classic "Standard LNWR building" look of the station buildings.. Lots of work on those windows and awnings I'm guessing, but all worth it as you captured them really well.

All the best for the New Year

QUOTE (10001 @ 31 Dec 2008, 15:45) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Hi Richard --- Many thanks for the Christmas Greetings. The confusion I had with the Ex LNWR 4-4-0 s was probably attributable to too much "happy"!!!.
.
Thank you for the kind words you wrote about my building efforts. Coming from such a highly skilled modeller as yourself, it is praise indeed - thanks again.
I have enough pictures taken during the build up of Eccles Junction station to do a thread about it, I may just do that- complete with a few more of my anecdotes!!!!!
I wish you a very Happy New Year and a great modelling 2009.
Tony Overton .

*** I'll be very interested to see your thread especially on creation of such buildings - lots of good stuff I am sure.

I too scratchbuild almost everything but there are many ways to skin a cat as they say and no matter how much you do it, there's always a new tip or a better or simply easier way to be found in the work of others, so get to it :)... I love to see, look and learn, and a bit if an inspiration boost from the work of others never goes amiss.

I hope the eyes aren't too foggy on the first after the new year tipple

***Cheers Tony - Nice to be thought of!

I spent Australia day in a very relaxed manner doing about nothing - a pleasant change from the normal routine!

How is the summer of 2009 treating you in Northern NZ - I do miss my occasional weekend up in the Bay of Islands with fishing rod in one hand and (way back then) girlfriend in the other :) :)!

***Cheers Tony - Eccles Junction is progressing well, and the combination of buildings leaves no doubt as the who the "railway parents" are with their distinctive LNWR look - its really nice to see so much harmony in the architecture.

The station buildings have come out really nicely, and your window technique proves that the old ideas still do it just as well as buying in the Bits.

Between Eccles junction and Jimreads very nice card wagons in N scale, you may well yet encourage a welcome return to doing it yourself with card, a ruler and a scalpel!

***Good stuff Tony - always liked the look of that loco... and the kit comes up really nicely when well put together as you have done. I like the overall scene its running through too... not hard to imagine a grimy row of warehouses or tenements behind it at all.

Nice to see you back! ... and keep the tender topped up!

*** Hi Tony - bored - hell no - I am builder of things too and I happily take my hat off to you - some really good stuff with loads of character ... it was a pleasure to see and read about it.

Its all too easy to forget just how much effort and versatility it used to take to create something for the layout - kits are now superb in comparison to yesteryear (I have persevered through some of the older kits for bloody-mindedness sake but I have also just binned about a dozen Jackson Evans kits. literally, because they were just not up to todays standards except for some superb castings)

There used to also be a need for lots of lateral thinking in materials... and research is less too as a good kit comes with loco history, lots of pictures and optional details to die for as well! In reality, while I can build, paint and line a complex kit with no difficulty at all to a good standard, reading your missive makes me feel more like a simple mechanic compared to an artist!

Your hand lettering is pretty darn respectable too by the way - I'd not have picked it as such at all if you had not said... thats a considerable skill in its own right!

So thanks for sharing and please: Keep up the stream of consciousness stuff about your models and their history - its inspiring and interesting... AND yes I (and I am sure others) am also interested to read about your approach to rocks, so get writing :) :).

Kindest regards

Richard

*** Ditto Tony - As with Britho's comment, I say what I mean and mean what I say, no more, no less - I actually used that phrase but it certainly does not mean anything close to your interpretation to me!

I simply see it as a trip down memory lane which is always the source of interesting anecdotes and a little history to add some more depth to the appreciation of whats being shown and discussed. It adds a provenance and value to what may otherwise be seen as simply another model.

kind regards
