What a day !! Listened to the last few overs of the cricket final and for once really enjoyed them.Hoisted the flag for a deserving England team .Then enjoyed breakfast on the deck in lovely warm sunshine. Then cooked a BBQ for a late lunch whilst the weather held . Heard that the England coach told his team they could drink as much Coco-cola as they liked , we thought that was a good idea so we we had a couple of celebratory bottles too . I had a red and my wife had a white !!!

I'm sure the residents up and down the Goon Valley were in a happy mood all day and here is Charles and Rodney just having raised the flag as an LMS Lemon 0-4-4T leaves Greenslade for Eccles.

Indeed - pretty damn good watching it as well. England require 1 run to win off 19 balls......

Good stuff "Coca Cola"

I would like to apologise to anyone looking in to these pages and finding that the accompanying pictures were not available to be viewed as usual. This was because I (we), had been trying to compose a thread with pictures for inclusion in this magnificent forum, when I (we), accidentally clicked on to an incorrect instruction and in doing so completely blocked the pictures on my Photobucket site.
This not only precluded me ( us), from completing the post, but also blocked any new uploads. Of course it also blocked many of the pictures already uploaded to this thread.

After much tribulation, I ( we), through the redoubtable efforts of my highly esteemed lady computer assistant, have eventually solved the problem. This was done by discovering some amazing things and instructions via Google, and numerous other assisting experts.

All pictures are now back in their places and I (we), invite all interested parties to view these at their leisure.

Best wishes Tony, and the highly esteemed lady computer expert.

Hi Britho . When I tried to knock up those good citizens of Greenslade , none other than Rodney and Charles , I found that they had already left on their annual outing to Muckbottom Fair so I'm afraid they didnot raise the flag for you on your birthday . Nevertheless all the other Greensladians wish you a very happy day.

Cheers Tony, your good wishes are much appreciated. By a strange coincidence I will be attending a steam fair here in Margate tomorrow loads of lovely old heavy trucks to admire.

Hi . After quite a few attempts I think we have finally mastered video clip posting with this short clip of a couple of expresses passing beneath the "bird cage " on the Goon Valley Railway . On the up line (nearest} is City Of Leicester, and on the down express are the two Jubilees Neptune and Vernon double heading. The third one I missed as it was going too fast.

I hope it turns out OK . Enjoy.

This England football team couldn't even beat Whangarei Girls High School Under 14s second eleven.
There will be no flag raising in the village of Greenslade today. In fact rumour has it that Rodney and Charles are thinking of setting about the flagpole with the chainsaw .

Hi Tony!

This is the first time that I have come across your 'Goon Valley' thread and I've spent the last half hour going through it from start to finish ...I don't know how I could have missed it before. Really cracking job with the scenery and stock...and being born and bred in the North West takes me back to my youth...Do you by chance have a plan of your layout that you could post? I would be interested to see that...Top job Bro...especially for an 'Honorary Kiwi'...

Cheers

Hi Geoff . Many thanks for your flattering reply, I'm glad you enjoyed the thread. I did have a plan of the Goon Valley Railway but I couldn't find it today. I guess it will turn up ,and when it does I'll post it on here .I'll keep looking. Incidentally in which part of the North West did you live . My intention in building the GVR was to relive my youth with lots of memories and nostalgia and I think I have done just that. I know that when I get down to my train room time stands still !!!

Regards and best wishes.

Hi Tony!

I was born and raised in Prescot in Lancashire, the Liverpool to Wigan North Western line ran past our back door. Forebears came from Preston, all worked on the railway in various guises, shunters, signaling inspectors, porters, ticket collectors..etc.. About four or five generations back one Grand Father was one of the first engine drivers on the L & Y...So pretty well steeped in railways I guess...

Look forward to your layout plan at some stage...Guess you'll be pleased the 'All Whites' drew with Italy last night too...

Cheers
Geoff
