As you may or may not know I'm in the process of doing the depot area for my Cleveland Mills and I'm undecided on how to get it looking as neat and also easy to maintain.

I've tried on my old layout and also on this one but for some reason it always looks messy. I've seen some other peoples layouts on this forum and on others and I was wondering what people think is the best way of getting your depot area looking realistic with things like ballast application.

I know that depots and layouts are normally brought to life with the little details but I'm looking for inspiration to get mine's looking at least like a modern day diesel depot.

Pictures as well as explanations would be helpful.

In this picture you can see the 2 lines leading into the building and what will be a storage line just to the left of the building which will be the depot area.
