Where's the Spell Checker gone?

It's a shame certain posters on this,and other,forums don't make much more use of a spell-checker,they certainly need to!!
[I won't name names,but I think we all know who they are]

I surely can't be the only one that finds the appalling spelling and grammar irritating,offensive,and in some cases virtually unreadable....

After all,this is a public forum,it is only common courtesy to try to use the English Language correctly.....

So, c'mon Guys,-keep the standards up!!

Now,-I'm not against abbreviations etc. and with the best will in the world,the odd typo is bound to creep in,but it is the consistant mis-spelling of even simple words like axle,for example,that really grates,and the failure to capitalise and punctuate when neccessary.We all have the ability to edit our posts before replying and after posting,so there's no excuse,failure to do so is just laziness,and not being bothered about it is just slapdash...
On another forum one of the posters admits that he suffers from dyslexia,but,as he explains,although time-consuming he always goes back and re-reads his posts and corrects them if he can before posting [and they are always emminently readable]so if he can do it,-why can't others

I wasn't advocating everyone elevating their posts to 'art form' standard,-just an reasonably acceptable standard,-i.e.not below the literacy level of a child attending primary school...
Using a capital I when refering to one's self is just basic stuff, for example...

Now,I'm not singling you out here Peter,as I said in my original post,I'm refering to other forums as well,but I think it is up to all of us to maintain reasonable standards,and try and do the best we can when using the English language [and I'm not suggesting that I'm word perfect myself,far from it!]....

Put it this way,-do you expect people to be polite when you deal with them in person?-i.e. behave to a reasonable standard?
-Or are you happy to suffer rudeness because you understand what they're saying?

Just please edit your posts before posting,out of common decency,-if for no other reason....

But on a more serious note I do have to agree with DS239 about the level of literacy at times. It is not just spelling it's the standard of grammar that puts my teeth on edge. If people took a little longer while writing their posts perhaps some of the more obvious howlers would be picked up.

The other thing is that some of the posts on here are starting to resemble text messages, and believe me those I really can't understand!!

Well said by Brian & Brian (from another Brian).

I know of several people who are very bad at spelling and/or grammer & have either sucessfull business's or excel in their chosen proffession & are well respected.

On the other side I know & have met some people who may have been well educated & have perfect spelling & grammer who, because of their total lack of common sense are about as useful as a chocolate teapot. (A bit like many politicians & High Court Judges).

As long as the writer has made a reasonable effort to the best of their ability, then that IMHO is all that matters.

I, for one try to get it close, however, sometimes I "hop on" to the forum just before going to work & "dash off" a reply only to find later about the mistakes.

If you really don't like the way someone has written anything, just do what you may do with someone out in the real world - ignore them.

Regarding text speak - a lady that I know sends texts in full "correct grammer" - no abbreviations, full punctuation, capitals & so on. It must take her ages to send - I know it can take a while to read !

Oh well, back to models railways - just off to the workshop to convert a LGB loco to DCC.

doubleoo, I'm not aware MS IE has a spell checker. The only spell checker on my system when I reply to a post is as you say ABC with a tick beneath it but that's part of the forum and requires the spell checking software to be downloaded which I suspect you may have done at some stage.
