I think it is brand loyalty in action. Most people have their favourites. While no one brand is perfect some, generally speaking, produce products which appeal to a specific group of people because of qualities that they prefer being inherent in that brand. Each individual modeller has his own priorities, and these can vary considerably from modeller to modeller, which is why you get such heated debate when any assertion, whether positive or negative is made about any of the big brands. As it is the modellers preferences that he feels is being challenged.
