I would have doubted that until I actually saw a gloss finished model with my own eyes.
It didn't look at all realistic and I'm totally convinced now.
In addition to BRITHO's comments, I rather think that full size locos are not very glossy in the first place and, what gloss there is, fades rapidly. Even satin finished models often look a bit too shiny to me. But, as usual, this is very personal taste and we are allowed to differ.
