Yes, 12mm HOm is the best (although not perfect) gauge. You can build (or order ready made) DJH Garratts in HOm gauge.

I think that most people would like to run these on their home layouts so 16.5mm is probably going to have to make do. It doesn't bother me too much. I just want to see these things running.

I could finance this by selling my OO/HO collection and run a single inside line of 45mm track around my garage and a nice long loop around the garden...
