I'm having a go at roads now but I have discovered something odd in the 2D view. I want the road higher than the railway so I have gone to Figures and added a rectangle to the green base and raised its height in order to raise the level of the ground. I have added a road and raised it to the same height but cannot see it in 2D view. Even if the road is a higher height it still does not show. Can see it in 3D view. If I lower the rectangle Figure to 1 the road can be seen in 2D.

What am I doing wrong?

This is one of the figure interface issues in SCARM. Figures, that are 1.5mm or higher are always drawn above the tracks and roads in 2D. If you want to see the road, make the figure color transparent in the Properties dialog.

The new SCARM v. 0.9.34 is ready and published, coming with new and updated track libraries and also with the brand new Model Trains Simulator.
Read more details here:

SCARM Railway Layout Planning Software 0.9.34 Released

The Starter Edition of the simulator is intended for simple 2D and 3D simulations of various operations on the track plans, designed in SCARM. It will show you how the model rolling stock can be operated on a real layout, before buying even a single track.

In this way, you may test the concept of your plan and to discover potential design flaws before start the construction of a real layout. And like SCARM, this edition of the simulator is completely free

Please note: if you want to test the simulator, you must install the latest version of SCARM first and then to use "Extensions" > "Browse for Extensions" menu command in the program in order to download and install the required files.

The simulator opens a whole new world in SCARM universe and I may start a new topic to discuss various operating possibilities, the realism options, performing of the simulation sessions, etc., if some of you are interested in that field.

Hope you will like it

Hello Chris,

The tracks and roads are always snapped to the terrain, except when laid in Bridge mode. When track or road crosses another on a level, the lower must be set to Tunnel or the higher must be set to Bridge mode. Otherwise, the terrain will be not rendered correctly. Another reason for incorrect terrain is when the lower track/road is laid after the upper in the 2D editor. In such case, just cut and paste the upper road/track section that passes over and that should fix the problem.

Wow, this looks exciting Mixy. I look forward to downloading it and trying it out.

Question - I have discovered that sometimes when deleting a piece of track no red connecting arrow appears on the piece of track left, therefore I cannot connect another piece of track to it. I have to delete more track until the arrow reappears. What's going on?

Rich

PS. Why have my words 'exciting' and 'arrow' been highlighted in green? I didn't do that. Anyone know?

Thanks for that Philip. I hate downloading things off the Net but I'll look into it. Stuart seems to have done it alright.

Has anyone downloaded the updated SCARM and got the simulator working?

There are more than 500 downloads for the simulator since initial release and very positive feedback from all users, which makes me extremely happy

Please note, that ad block or other content filtering plugins in the browser may cause troubles when downloading and registering of the sim extension. If you experience problems with the download and installation of the sim, ensure that you open the Extensions page from SCARM first, then try to whitelist www.scarm.info in your adblocker and finally, follow the steps descried here: How to obtain and install Model Trains Simulator

And here are the SCARM model train blog posts for September.

That is designed probably in AutoCAD or other similar general purpose CAD software, not in SCARM. However, I am considering adding of features for creating of modular layouts also in SCARM for some of the next versions of the program

Wow, the Train Simulator is great. It has great potential, it will help me greatly in planning operations on my proposed layouts. Yes, starting a new topic somewhere would be a good thing I think. Will the movement be smoothed out gradually over subsequent upgrades? How much does the movement depend on your computer? I have changed the MTS settings to Analogue and Boost Frame Rate and Analogue improved it greatly in 2D view but not in 3D, not sure about a noticible difference with the frame rate.

I look forward to Inertia being activated. I never drive my models without inertia, they don't drive like the real things without it.

There are some strange things going on with the track. Sometimes the loco will stop on points and I cannot figure out why but if I delete the point and replace it by connecting it via a different red arrow then the loco goes over it. I always drive slowly over the track first and sometimes the loco will stop at a certain point when going slowly but will keep going if going a little faster. Is that simulating the stopping of locos on dirty track or point frogs?

Well done Mixy, I know all these niggling little problems will be cured over time but I will put my vote down for Inertia activation being the first thing please

Thank you

PS. That modular meeting looks amazing. I've never been to one of those.

Thank you, Rick

Here are my comments on your questions:

The quality (smoothness) of the simulation depends on the track plan complexity and the capabilities (CPU, RAM, Video) of your PC. See more here: How to increase the frame rate during simulation in MTS.

Inertia is not yet ready, but when completed, the setting will be activated in some of the next versions of the program.

If there are sudden stops, read about the possible reasons here: Why the train stops for no reason. If you have enabled "Gravity" in the Settings, try to turn it off as it is not yet working properly for some layouts and slow speeds. That will be fixed in the next versions of the sim.

Mixy

Thanks Mixy - yes I did see the page on "Why the train stops for no reason" but none of those reasons fitted. There was no break, no old track, all track was compatable but yet the loco still stopped and the only thing that cured it was to delete the point and relay via a different red arrow.

Anyway, see how it goes. I could be missreading something, haven't tried switching off the gravity yet (which I've just notice is on by default). Keep up the good work Mixy.
