Problem with fitting some details to a locomotive, especially a steamer, is that they can interfere with the pony truck, snap, and be lost forever. I don't usually fit any detail parts anywhere near a part of a loco that will traverse sideways.

So I have just learned to my feckin’ annoyance. Bloody train wouldn’t go through the points with derailing, I‘ve removed them. What blumen’ sodding twunty waste of pigging time. grrrrr.

Yeah, you can leave any parts that fit under the body, but anything that fits below the bodyshell is best left in its bag.
Shame, they really do add something to any model, unfortunately, not very practical in 1:76 scale.

That certainly shows the sheer size of the thing. Massive!

It's the steps that cause most trouble fouling on the front ponytruck wheels.
Where fitted I modify them by a combination of having them slightly offset and/or reshaping them to clear the wheel. Just feel that something is better than nothing.
